The Dead Church A preacher found himself working in a struggling congregation - a place where many were surprised he had gone, for they were considered a dead congregation. One day the congregation was astonished when they read in local newspaper that there would be a funeral held Wednesday evening at the church building.
Curiously, the whole congregation shows up to attend the funeral. The preacher got up and said several words about the deceased - without ever calling his name. Following the remembrance of all of the wonderful things this one had done in the past - the casket was open and the people were asked to pass by to view the remains.
What did they see that made their faces so red? There was a mirror placed in the bottom of the casket and they saw - THEMSELVES! They were the deceased!
I am reminded of the church in Sardis, where of them it was said, “I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.” ( Rev. 3:1 ) T. Moore |
