Applied Christianity
“And
do not neglect doing good and
sharing,
for with
such sacrifices God is pleased.”
( Hebrews
13:16 )
How fortunate we are to live in
the land of plenty. During this time of year as we
meditate upon the boundless blessings we enjoy, we
cannot help but be grateful to the God who has entrusted
us with such bounty to use to His glory. In addition to
gratitude, realizing how blessed we are also causes us
to feel compassion for others who are less fortunate.
Being thus, motivated some in last Tuesday’s business
meeting suggested that we become involved in some of the
benevolent activities that are conducted early each
winter and all present readily agreed.
Therefore, it was decided that we
would collect good used coats, gloves, winter hats. etc
to be donated to the poor. We’ll then entrust them to
Community Services for distribution. Thus, if you have
extra winter gear for any age group or any size, please
bring them in and place them in the empty classroom just
west of the nursery.
In addition to the coats, we are
going to be collecting nonperishable food items to be
donated to the needy. Boxes will be put in the same
classroom for the food items. This is an opportunity
for everyone to get involved. There are many sales
going on this time of year. If we each just buy a few
extra cans of whatever is on sale, it will be a blessing
to some needy families.
“While
we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and
especially to those who are of the
household
of the
faith.”
(
Gal. 6:10
)
This is
our opportunity to put our Christianity into practice.
May God bless us to take full advantage of it; to make
our love more than words. As we give others cause to
thank God, God will be glorified.
